Paradise

As I mentioned in the previous post, in my city we have a little "paradise" (an Island). The magical Paradise is called Berlengas!

Berlengas is a small Island with beaches and several caves. It's a natural reservation due to the local fauna, the vibrant marine life and species of birds. The only way to go over there is by boat, that you can book and only depart from Peniche.

Como eu mencionei no post anterior, na minha cidade nós temos um pequeno "paraíso" (uma ilha). O paraíso mágico chama-se Berlengas!
Berlengas é uma ilha pequena com praias e várias grutas. É uma reserva natural devido à fauna local, à vibrante vida marinha e espécies de pássaros. A única maneira de ir là é através de barco, que podes marcar e partir apenas de Peniche.

 

You have also a fort called Forte de São João Baptista, where you can sleep or if you prefer you can camp. I tried both and honestly I prefer to do campism with friends.

I can tell you it's a beautiful and amazing place to go if you ever come to Peniche during the summer time. That's only when you can go over there though. You have many activites to do there, such as swimming, canoeing, diving, visit the caves, etc.

Tens também um forte chamado Forte de São João Baptista, onde podes dormir ou se preferires podes acampar. Eu experimentei ambos e honestamente prefiro fazer campismo com os amigos.
Posso dizer-te que é um local lindo e surpreendente para ir se alguma vez vieres a Peniche durante a altura do verão. É também a única alguma que podes ir lá. Tens várias actividades, tais como natação/nadar, canoagem, mergulho, visitar as grutas, etc.
 

I've been there a few times and it never amuse us as it's always fun! Last time I went to Berlengas, was last year in 2013 and I did for the first time conoeing with friends. OMG, that was the best experience ever!!! I can asure you that! We had so much funnnnn... but I would advise you to go with some shorts or at least something you don't mind to get wet, because the fun is so huge that you end up getting all wet. You will certainly need to exchange clothes to avoid getting a cold.

We also did some walkings over the Island to have some contact with the nature.

Eu já estive lá algumas vezes e nunca nos aborrece pois é sempre divertido! A últimas vez que fui às Berlengas foi o ano passado em 2013 e fiz para primeira vez canoagem com os amigos. Oh meu Deus, foi das melhores experiências de sempre! Posso afirmar-te isso! Nós divertimo-nos tantooo... mas eu aconselho-vos a levar uns calções ou pelo menos algo que não te importes de molhar, porque o divertimento é tão grande que acabas por ficar todo/a molhado/a. Tu vais precisar certamente de mudar de roupa se não quiseres ficar constipado/a.
Nós também fizemos alguns passeios para ilha para termos algum contacto com a natureza.

 

You have a restaurant and also a small store where you can buy some food, buy ice creams or go for a coffee with friends.

Tens um restaurante e uma pequena loja onde podes comprar comida, gelados e ir beber um café com os amigos.

We used to go drink some coffees at night and we would end up getting to know some people who was also spending some days over the Island. It's a nice way to make friendships too. You end up meeting people from other countries and who knows, to keep the contact.

Nós costumávamos ir beber cafés à noite e acabávamos sempre por conhecer outras pessoas que também estavam a passar alguns dias na ilha. É uma boa forma de criar amizades também. Acabas sempre por conhecer pessoas de outros países e quem sabe manter o contacto.

Sometimes we would go out at night and stare at the sky watching the stars or playing cards, play guitar and sing songs.

Às vezes saímos à noite e olhávamos para o céu a observar as estrelas ou a jogar cartas, tocar guitarra e cantar canções.

All the times I went there with friends, we always did the trips by boat to visit the many several caves that exist there. We would have like a small tour guide to the caves and listen the stories about it.

Todas as vezes que fui lá com amigos, nós sempre fizemos as visitas de barco para visitar as várias grutas que existem. Nós tínhamos uma pequena viagem com guia para as grutas e ouvíamos as histórias sobre elas.

 

 

The next pictures is from the cave called Gruta Azul (translated would be called Blue Cave), that due to the orientation of the sun's rays, reflects the light in the background. If you put your hand inside the water makes your skin look blue. Ain't that amazing?

As próximas imagens são da gruta chamada Gruta Azul (traduzido seria Gruta Azul), que devido à orientação dos raios solares, reflecte a luz no fundo. Se puseres a tua mão dentro da água faz com que a tua pele pareça azul. Não é maravilhoso?
Surpreendente como a natureza pode nos enganar.
 



 

There's also a special boat that has a sort of an aquarium made inside the boat that allows you to see  underneath the water the beautiful marine life.

 

Existe também um barco especial que tem um género de um aquário dentro do barco que permite-te ver debaixo de água a bela vida marinha.

 

 

Some of the rocks there, have the shape of animals, like the next picture, it looks like an elephant.

 

Algumas rochas lá, têm a forma de animais, como a imagem seguinte, que parece um elefante.

 

 

 

As you can see, it's worth the time and the view! I asure you 100% it will be a place to repeat visiting. If you ever go there, let me know and share some of the experience you had. :)

My Home

Before going into different subjects in this blog, I want to talk a little about my country, Portugal, but more specifically about "my home" (city).

Portugal is a great country, full of beautiful landscapes, friendly people, a great weather and has an amazing gastronomy. Those who have tasted our food, when going to another country can see the big difference of it, specially if we are talking about Bakery!

I live in Peniche, it's a small city and it's considered the city of fish and also with one of the best waves to surf! We had many international championships of Surf and it's always full of foreign people in summer time.

It's also known in History by our Fortress, related to April 1974, the Revolution of Freedom.

I won't give full details and information about our city, because you can always search in Google if you're interested. Here I'll just give my opinion and experience of living in this city.

I used to live in a different city and moved to Peniche when I had 8 years old. Moved because that's where my parents worked and I had school, so it made no point anymore to be living in the other city.

I like living here for being so calm and barely happens anything bad in this city. It's great in summer times, there's always many activities to do and specially to go to our little "paradise".

Peniche is a peninsula and has an island called Berlengas, and that's our little paradise! I love Berlengas and everyone else who lives in Peniche or those who have visited love it. But that's another matter I will talk in a different post!


Antes de falar sobre tópicos diferentes neste blog, eu quero falar um bocadinho sobre o meu país, Portugal, mas mais especificamente sobre a "minha casa" (cidade).
Portugal é um bom país, cheio de paisagens bonitas, pessoas amigáveis, um bom tempo e tem uma gastronomia surpreendente.
Aqueles que já provaram a nossa comida, quando vão a outro país conseguem ver a grande diferença, especialmente se estivermos a falar de padaria!
Eu moro em Peniche, é uma cidade pequena e é considerada a cidade do peixe e com umas das melhores ondas para praticar Surf! Nós tivemos muitos campeonatos internacionais de Surf e está sempre cheio de pessoas estrangeiras durante o verão.
É também conhecido na História pela nossa Fortaleza, relacionado ao Abril de 1974, a Revolução da Liberdade.
Eu não darei grandes detalhes e informação sobre a nossa cidade, porque podem sempre pesquisar no Google informações sobre isso se estiverem interessados. Aqui eu darei apenas a minha opinião e experiência em viver nesta cidade.
Eu costumava viver numa cidade diferente e mudei-me para Peniche quando tinha 8 anos. Mudei-me porque era onde os meus pais trabalhavam e eu tinha escola, por isso não fazia sentido continuar a viver na outra cidade.
Eu gosto de viver aqui por ser calmo e raramente acontecer alguma coisa má na cidade. É óptimo nas alturas do verão, há sempre muitas actividades para fazer e especialmente para ir ao nosso pequeno "Paraíso".
Peniche é uma península e tem uma ilha chamada Berlengas, e isso é o nosso pequeno paraíso! Eu adoro as Berlengas e todas as pessoas que vivem em Peniche ou aqueles que já visitaram, adoram. Mas isso é outro assunto que irei falar num post diferente!

Obviously there's a lot more things about my city, but at the moment I'm not avaiable to take pictures and show you. I'll make sure next year, I'll bring a few more to share with you.

Obviamente há muito mais coisas sobre a minha cidade, mas de momento não estou disponível para tirar fotos e mostrar-vos. Eu prometo no próximo ano, trazer-vos mais para partilhar com vocês.



Little Info: Me

I decided first to introduce myself and share a bit of me.

My name is Carolina, I'm 27 years old and I'm from Portugal, currently living in Dublin (just for a while).

When I was in Portugal I was unemployed for a long time and somehow finishing my university course. I have a degree in Tourism Recreation to work as an entertainer.

However during my practice or could say a trainer made me realise that it's not the job that would like to work for the rest of my life.

So, until I was unemployed, I had the opportunity to come over Dublin and taking care of my niece. It's been nice being here but sometimes it's hard . I miss my country, the rest of my family and friends.

While I'm here, I've met a few friends of my sister, seen different places, etc., but also started doing handmade crafts.

I love Art and everything related to it, and not to mention that almost all my family have skills on Art, I decided to be part of creating and crafting.

Eu decidi primeiro apresentar-me e partilhar um pouco de mim.
Meu nome é Carolina, tenho 27 anos e sou de Portugal, de momento estou a viver em Dublin (só por uns tempos).
Quando eu estava em Portugal, estava desempregada for algum tempo e de certa forma acabar o meu curso de Universidade. Eu tenho uma licenciatura em Animação Turística como animadora.
No entanto, durante a minha prática ou poderia dizer um treinador me fez perceber que não é o trabalho que gostaria de trabalhar para o resto da minha vida.
Então, enquanto eu estava desempregada, eu tive a oportunidade de vir para Dublin tomar conta da minha sobrinha. Tem sido bom estar aqui mas às vezes é difícil. Tenho saudades do meu país, o resto da minha família e amigos.
Enquanto eu estou aqui, eu conheci alguns amigos da minha irmã e tenho conhecido sítios diferentes, etc., mas também comecei a fazer artesanato.
Eu amor Arte e tudo o que está relacionado a ela, e sem mencionar que quase toda a minha família tem jeito para as Artes, por isso decidi também fazer parte da criatividade e de artesanato.
